As we approach the last months of 2024, we reflect on a busy year filled with impactful activities at IFC, Inc. Our commitment to supporting family caregivers has led to numerous community initiatives and collaborations aimed at enhancing awareness and providing resources for those navigating the challenges of caregiving.
One of the notable events this year was the participation of our co-founder, Willetha Barnette, in a meeting at the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) in February. Drawing from her experience as the primary caregiver for her mother, Willetha shared critical insights on the necessity of preparation for family caregivers. She emphasized the importance of approaching caregiving with knowledge and strength rather than anxiety, particularly as millions more take on these responsibilities.
Willetha also participated in her sixth annual presentation at UNC-CH Medical School in March, where she explored the intertwined nature of chronic illness and caregiving. Sharing her journey as an African American female caregiver and a long-term Crohn’s disease patient, Willetha’s story resonated deeply, shedding new light on the unique experiences of caregivers from diverse backgrounds.
Looking ahead, IFC, Inc. is excited to continue advocating for family caregivers and expanding our programs to meet the growing demands of our community. We are committed to raising awareness about the importance of caregiver well-being and the systemic changes needed to support them effectively.
